Bingo has a reputation for being something of a tiresome game, played only by grannies and drunk middle-aged women with nothing better to do. But oh, there’s so much more to it than that! Whether you live in a quiet retirement home in Somerset, or in the heart of a vibrant city, bingo can add some much needed excitement to your days. And here’s why:
It’s a Great Way to Socialize
The older you get, the fewer friends you have left around you. And the ones that do remain can live out of the way or be difficult to get to. So it makes sense that you meet each other in a neutral, central location. And bingo, of course, is the answer. It’s not just a fab place to meet old friends though – it’s also somewhere to meet new ones, and have a riotous good time with people who have similar interests.
It Keeps Your Mind Active
There’s no denying that there’s a certain… vagueness of the mind that creeps up on us as we age. Keeping your brain active is an excellent way to combat this. Bingo tests your memory, your perception skills, your reflexes and reactions – all things you very much don’t want to let slide away. No, sir. You’d much rather your faculties remain in your brain, where you can see them and, more importantly, use them. If marbles were part of bingo, we’d give you such a perfect metaphor right now.
You Can Win Money
A little gambling never hurt anybody. Okay, so that’s probably not true. But the instances of bingo-related gambling hurting somebody are very low, we assure you. And besides, bingo isn’t really gambling. The gambling is more of a side effect of the game, where fun and socialising are the main goal. And winning a little (or a lot of) money on the side can only enhance the fun, right? Right.
It’s Something to Look Forward To
Anticipation is, strangely enough, one of the greatest pleasures there is. Well, so long as what you’re anticipating is pleasant. Fortunately, bingo fits the bill. Knowing you have something to look forward to each week can help get you through the slower days, such as the ones you spend sitting in front of the TV watching people desperately trying to sell dusty old antiques. Anticipation of something can also greatly enhance the pleasure of actually doing the activity. So mark a regular spot (or two) on your calender each week for a good old game of bingo.
