8 Ways to Make Money on Vacation

Not long ago, I took a girls trip with my good friends. One of them had a birthday, which was the main reason for the trip. We had a great time, but part of the time we were gone was during the week when I’m usually working.

For some people, being gone during a work week is simply not an option due to the shortened paycheck. However, as a freelancer and virtual assistant, I was able to take my work with me and squeeze it in between activities.

If you think you can’t take a vacation due to missed work, there are ways to make money on vacation. Below are a few ideas.

1. Rent Your Home

Have you ever thought about using your empty home to make money on vacation? You can sign up with sites such as Airbnb and list the dates your home will be available to rent.

If you can’t rent the whole house, that doesn’t mean you can’t still rent your home as a side hustle. You can list and rent just a few rooms for extra income. In fact, that’s something you can do both while on vacation and when you’re at home. Renting your home might even give you the income you need to be able to take a much needed vacation.

2. Blog About Your Travels

Believe it or not, there are travel websites and blogs that will pay you to post about your travels. Look for one that will let you submit a sample post to get started.

Once you get your foot in the door, make sure you have a signed contract for your work. Next, pack your bags and set off on your adventure. Don’t forget your camera. You might also be able to sell your travel photos to make money on vacation.

3. Get Paid to Exercise

Will you be doing a lot of walking while you’re on vacation? If so, consider signing up for an app that will pay you to exercise. Apps such as Achievement and HealthyWage will help you meet your fitness goals and may gain you some extra cash while you’re gone.

4. Housesit for Others

Go on the trip of your dreams by housesitting for others. With websites such as House Sitters America  you can sign up and choose your vacation destination.

Some jobs require small additional tasks to be completed, such as caring for plants or pets. Make sure you read all of the details of each housesitting job carefully before accepting. Then simply pick the best one for you and make money on vacation.

If you make enough money it might pay for the rest of our vacation expenses. What’s more, you might make enough to take a trip without paying to stay at all.

5. Scan Grocery Receipts

Will you be purchasing groceries while on your trip? Eating on your vacation will be much cheaper if you limit the number of restaurant meals.

Keep your receipts to get cash back on your food with a grocery app. Each evening, take a few minutes to scan them and make money on vacation.

6. Do Virtual Assistant Work

As I mentioned previously, this is how I make money on vacation. In fact, I have done this more than once.

I pack my computer in a well-padded computer bag so it doesn’t get too banged around. If I fly, I put the computer bag inside a backpack that I carry on the plane.

7. Give Someone a Ride

You might be able to give someone else a ride to make money on vacation. If you’re driving to reach your final destination, consider advertising to drop someone else off for a fee.

You can use Facebook, Instagram, and other social media sites to let people know you can give them a ride. There are also websites, such as erideshare.com, you can use to find someone going the same way you are.

8. Get a Travel Job

Need another way to make money on vacation? Get a job with an airline or cruise company. Working for one of these types of business increases the likelihood that you can make money on vacation.

You don’t have to feel like you are only shelling out money when you take a trip. Try one or more of these ways to make money on vacation and get money back instead.
